About Rhys

Piano teaching has always been my path

Rhys holds a Bachelor of Music degree, where piano performance was his primary study. Alongside his performance training, he took modules specifically to become the best teacher he could be, including instrumental teaching and learning, music psychology, and analysis.

He has over a decade of teaching experience, honing his skills and helping students engage with the piano, meeting and exceeding their initial expectations. He is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and holds a current DBS certificate.

The Lessons

Built around you, from the first note

Lessons are built around a proactive, structured approach. Rather than reacting to mistakes as they arise, the focus is on developing technique, musical understanding, and confidence together from the ground up. Theory is introduced where it naturally supports the music, not treated as a separate subject. Repertoire spans the full classical tradition, from Baroque through to Classical, Romantic, and Modern, including contemporary and avant-garde music for students who want to explore beyond the standard repertoire. ABRSM exam preparation available, and students have achieved distinctions.

Every lesson ends with a summary session. Together we look at what has been achieved in the lesson and set a clear direction for next time. This celebrates the improvements and progress always feel concrete.

New to Piano?

A warm and unhurried environment where we explore the instrument together

Returning after time away?

No judgement and no assumptions about where you left off
The first lesson is as much a conversation as anything else, taking time to listen to your experience, your goals, and what has and has not worked for you before
Lessons adapt constantly to suit you, rebuilding confidence alongside musicianship and technique
Many returning students are surprised by how quickly things come back and how enjoyable it can feel with the right support

Younger Learners

A patient and encouraging space where children can explore the piano without pressure
Lessons are engaging and varied, keeping younger students interested and motivated
Parents play a key part of the journey and are kept informed of progress and what to encourage at home

Advanced Students

For students working towards Grade 8, beyond, or preparation for music at university level
Repertoire and technique are developed in depth, with serious attention to musical detail and interpretation
A broad classical repertoire is covered, with room to explore less conventional works
The goal is always a musician who can think and perform independently, not just pass an exam

Online or In Person

Nothing is lost online

Online lessons are available and work just as well as being in the room together. A dual camera setup is used throughout, one showing clearly and one giving an overhead view of the keyboard at all times, so nothing is lost technically or musically.

For students with busy schedules, online lessons offer the convenience of learning from your own home without compromising on the quality of professional coaching. In person lessons are also available in East London for those who prefer it. Either way, the teaching is the same.

All new enquiries are followed up with an online consultation prior to committing to lessons. Get in touch to get started.

Payment Terms

All fees are paid before lessons take place.
Single lessons and blocks of 5 are paid upfront in full.
Blocks of 10 and 20 can be paid upfront in full, or split into 4 weekly payments if preferred.

Getting Started

Let's have a conversation first

All new enquiries are followed up with a short online consultation via Zoom, around 20 minutes, for £6. This is a relaxed conversation to get to know each other, discuss goals and experience, and make sure we are a good fit before committing to lessons.

Parents of younger students are warmly encouraged to use this time to ask any questions they may have. The consultation is available to all prospective students regardless of whether lessons will ultimately be online or in person.

Rhys currently has limited availability for new students in person and greater availability online.
